Fragments of the City: A Major Artistic Display Animates Gazas History (PHOTOS) "ConflictWatch Feed Palestine"
The exhibition included works of art that were engraved and hand-printed, archaeological landmarks in the Gaza Strip, and postage stamps used in Palestine during previous eras.
Palestinian artists in the Gaza Strip held a fine art exhibition that simulates the history of Gaza City and its archaeological sites.
Twenty-eight artists participated in the exhibition, entitled Fragments of the City, which was held inside the French Cultural Center west of Gaza.
The exhibition included works of art that were engraved and hand-printed, archaeological landmarks in the Gaza Strip, and postage stamps used in Palestine during previous eras.
Among those landmarks are the Great Omari Mosque in Gaza City, Al-Sayyid Hashem Mosque in Al-Daraj neighborhood, Barquq Castle in Khan Yunis, the historic Al-Zawiya market, and other works that embody the history of the Gaza Strip.
We are displaying more than 100 works of art by 28 male and female artists who have completed their works using the technique of engraving and printing. Mohamed Al-Hajj, a local artist said.
With these works, we are trying to animate Gazas past along with the Strips archaeological monuments, he added.
Through art, we are trying to inform the world that the Gaza Strip contains archaeological sites and has great historical value.

Abu Zakaria, the Famed Turmos Seller of Gaza "ConflictWatch Feed Palestine"
Ayman al-Ghazal is one of the most famous in Gaza. His eldest son, Zakaria, stands beside his dad to help him.

This little stall takes care of a family of 5. It has done so for the last 20 years.
To prepare his products for the markets, it takes Abu Zakaria three days. Thats how long it takes for lupines known here as turmos to be soaked, boiled, salted and ready to be eaten.
As for the beans, he grills them in an oven. When cooked, Abu Zakaria decorates his small platters with lemon and parsley.
Abu Zakaria inherited this job from his father.
This job doesnt make one rich, but it may conceal his impoverishment, Abu Zakaria told the Palestine Chronicle. He smiles as he tends to a new customer.
The man looked tired. He complained about pain in his knees and headaches from standing under the sun for a long time.
There are over two million Palestinians living in Gaza, 65 percent of whom live under the poverty line.
Unemployment in the besieged Strip is one of the highest in the world due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
According to United Nations estimates, more than 60 percent of Gazas workforce is unemployed.

According to UNRWA, Summer Fun Weeks have been instituted particularly because of this, giving the children, including many children with special needs, the rare opportunity to be part of something exciting and positive.
The activities are scheduled to take place between July 8 and August 3.
It is expected to engage more than 130,000 children, according to UNRWA.

The Hadash-Taal lists Chairman, Ayman Odeh, was forced out of the Knesset plenary last week during a vote on the Counterterrorism Law after condemning the Israeli attack on the Palestinian refugee camp of Jenin.
He said: People killed in Jenin. People wounded in Tel Aviv. A killed soldier. All of their blood is because of your damned occupation. Occupation blinds you. Power blinds you. You are not only acting like occupiers, you are acting like idiots.
His speech came just days after Israel concluded its largest military operation in Jenin in more than 20 years. At least 12 Palestinians were killed, including four children, and more than 140 were injured in the offensive, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The raid also left a massive trail of destruction across the West Bank city, with dozens of homes, vehicles, shops and utility lines destroyed.
