DOJ drops campaign finance charge against Sam Bankman-Fried "IndyWatch Feed World"

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) informed a federal judge late Wednesday it did "not intend to proceed" with a campaign finance charge against disgraced FTX founder and Democrat super donor Sam Bankman-Fried. Consultation with the Bahamas on the campaign finance charges in Bankman-Fried's original extradition document last year were behind the decision as part of an effort to adhere to the legal obligations therein, Forbes reports. The campaign finance violation charge was among eight counts present in the DOJ's original indictment which also includes wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering in December.

US drops campaign finance charges against FTX founder "IndyWatch Feed World"

Federal prosecutors will not prosecute FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried for violating campaign finance laws, according to a court filing revealed on Thursday. The US Department of Justice cited "treaty obligations" to the Bahamas, which extradited the disgraced crypto investor last year. "The Government has been informed that The Bahamas notified the United States earlier today that The Bahamas did not intend to extradite the defendant on the campaign contributions count," US Attorney Damian Williams wrote in a Wednesday night filing, informing federal Judge Lewis A. Kaplan that he was dropping the charges. "Accordingly, in keeping with its treaty obligations to The Bahamas, the Government does not intend to proceed to trial on the campaign contributions count." This is the second charge the Southern District of New York prosecutors have dropped against the FTX founder. Bankman-Fried's attorneys have successfully appealed to Bahamian courts to block the prosecution on a charge of...

Weekend long read "IndyWatch Feed War"

1) The ITIC reports on The Palestinian Authority attempts to restore its system of governance.

One of the most critical tests currently facing the PA is restoring its governance to the Jenin region. For the time being, the security forces operate in the city, but the real test will be when they try to enter the refugee camp to disarm terrorist operatives. The Jenin refugee camp is considered one of the most fortified locations in Judea and Samaria, with stockpiles of weapons and explosives and where dozens of armed operatives freely roam the streets. Part of the PAs urgency to restore control comes from the fear that Hamas will take control of the territory, because during a long period when Hamas did not claim responsibility for attacks in Judea and Samaria, its military-terrorist wing now formally does claim responsibility for them.

2) At the JCPA, Khaled Abu Toameh discusses The Palestinian Authoritys Corruption and Its Impact on the Peace Process.

Nearly three decades after its establishment, the Palestinian Authority and its institutions continue unchecked in their corruption and human rights violations. This has negatively impacted the Palestinian publics confidence in its leaderships policies and decisions. The ramifications of this on the Palestinian Authoritys leadership have been devastating, especially regarding the peace process with Israel and its ability to lead the Palestinians toward statehood.

3) At the INSS, Morr Li...

CBDCs: A weapon for debanking the banked "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

In March 2022, President Biden signed an Executive Order directing government agencies to urgently research and develop a potential US central bank digital currency (CBDC) "in a manner that protects Americans' interests." It also encouraged the Federal Reserve Bank to continue doing so. And it isn't just the Biden Administration in the United States working in such a direction. As of the time of writing, CBDCTracker.org lists three countries or regions with retail CBDCs already "launched" (Bahamas, Jamaica and Nigeria), another five in "pilot" stage, and another twenty in "proof of concept" stage. Many more have at least researched wholesale CBDCs. ("Wholesale" CBDCs are intended for commercial and central bank use and the like, while "retail" CBDCs are intended for the rest of us). A report by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) released just this month summarizes the results of a survey of 86 central banks and concludes that "there could be 15 retail and nine wholesale...

Inconsistency in BBC descriptions of the location of two shooting attacks "ConflictWatch Feed Israel"

On the morning of July 25th a shooting attack took place on Mount Gerizim:

Three Palestinian gunmen, claimed as members of the Hamas terror group, were killed by Israeli forces while attempting to attack a small Samaritan community in the northern West Bank on Tuesday morning, the military said.

The exchange of fire took place in the Mount Gerizim area, just south of Nablus, and close to the Jewish settlement of Har Bracha. The area is home to a tiny community of Samaritans, known as Shomronim in Hebrew.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, a car with the three gunmen arrived in the area, and two got out and opened fire at troops of the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion who were guarding an army post at the entrance gate to the Samaritan community.

Later the same day, the BBC News website published a report by Raffi Berg headlined Palestinian gunmen killed near West Bank Samaritan community. Some five hours later that report was updated to include information concerning the Hamas affiliations of the perpetrators:

The official Palestinian Wafa news agency said Israeli forces took away the bodies of the men, who it said were...

Irish icon Sinad OConnor died on Wednesday, July 26, at the age of 56.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinad, the singers family said in a statement.

Speaking with Hot Press at the time to explain her stance, OConnor said:

Nobody with any sanity, including myself, would have anything but sympathy for the Palestinian plight.

Theres not a sane person on earth who in any way sanctions what the f**k the Israeli authorities are doing, she added.
