Civil Defense Volunteer Wants To Break The Longest Scuba Dive World Record "IndyWatch Feed World"

Mohammad Zein is a diving instructor and a civil defense volunteer who wants to break the longest scuba dive world record. The Lebanese record was 12 hours but Zein managed to break it last month with a 48h dive. Nevertheless, hes still aiming for the world record of 142 hours, 42 minutes & 42 seconds which is still far-fetched but not impossible to achieve.

I am curious to know how does one eat while scuba diving as Im sure he didnt spend 48 hours without eating or drinking. I thought it would be some tube system that feeds the diver liquids but the world record holder was apparently having meat balls while diving .

Best of luck to Mohammad! I hope he breaks that record one day.

At Least 9 Die and Three Dozen Injured in a Building Collapse in Cameroon

BY EDWIN KINDZEKA MOKI

6:58 AM EDT, July 23, 2023

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) At least nine people were killed and nearly three dozen injured in a building collapse, Cameroonian authorities said on Sunday.

A four-story building collapsed onto a smaller one early Sunday morning in Douala, the countrys economic center and largest city, 130 miles (210 km) west of the capital, Yaounde.

The casualty figures may be higher. Rescue workers, assisted by Cameroon government troops, are still digging the wreckage to see if more bodies can be recovered, said Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, governor of Cameroons Littoral region.

The militarys fire brigade has been ordered to join the countrys Red Cross and other rescue services in searching for survivors trapped under the rubble.

Residents living in the Ndogbon neighborhood where the incident took place said they are in shock.

We heard people screaming and struggled to help some out of the wreckage, but could not do it with our spades and (garden) hoes, said Gaspard Ndoppo, who lives near the collapsed buildings.

Building collapses happen often in Douala, sometimes due to natural disasters such as landslides and other times because of poor construction, locals say.

Doualas city council is currently demolishing houses in high-risk zones susceptible to floods or landslides.

The building that collapsed on Sunday was not marked for demolition.

Palms The Legend: Who Authorized This Monstrosity? "IndyWatch Feed World"

The Archaeological Site of Nahr el-Kalb has on Lebanons Tentative List for potential future World Heritage nomination since 2019 yet the Lebanese authorities dont seem too adamant to include it. Instead, they somehow authorized a local party to build its headquarters right on top of the Nahr el Kalb mountain where all the historical monuments are, and to make things worse, allowed the construction of a humongous music venue right in the middle of the river.

The venue is called Palms the Legend and consists of a 1250 square meters construction blocking the majority of the riverbed and causing environmental damages to its surrounding, from noise pollution to air pollution from fireworks and traffic jams.

Unfortunately, we cant blame them as they are allowed legally to operate and they even claim they are not causing any environmental harm. Even more, they issued a statement inviting environmental and geological experts to assess the venues impact on the environment.

Once again, the real blame is on the concerned ministries who should do their due diligence by inviting experts to assess the venues environmental impact and take the necessary measures accordingly. Until then, the Lebanese people dont seem too bothered by the situation. Who cares about anything as long were partying right?

Separatist Attack Kills 10 in Northwestern Cameroon, Regional Governor Says

BY EDWIN KINDZEKA MOKI

10:18 AM EDT, July 17, 2023

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) Armed separatists wearing military uniforms killed 10 civilians and wounded three in an attack at a crowded intersection in Cameroons volatile northwest, the regional governor said on Monday.

The killings took place on Sunday in Bamenda, the regions capital, according to the governor, Debben Tchoffo. The victims included a couple of newlyweds, he said. Eight people died at the scene and two more later in hospital.

For the past six years, the protracted armed conflict known as the Anglophone crisis has devastated communities across Cameroons two English-speaking regions, officially called Northwest and Southwest, as armed separatists clash with government forces.

Following a crackdown on peaceful protests in 2016, armed rebel groups mobilized and vowed to fight for the independence of the Anglophone areas, which they call Ambazonia.

Human Rights Watch estimates that as of 2022, at least 4,000 civilians have died and more than 700,000 were displaced by the violence.

The governor said the attackers behind Sundays killings were trying to create panic among civilians who have been collaborating with the military by reporting suspected separatists. Tchoffo said a search was underway for the attackers.

Supporters of the two sides traded accusations for the killings on social media. A video from the scene shows bodies of those killed lying on the ground as passersby look on, many taking photos with their smartphones. Some were crying.

The Associated Press could not independently verify the authenticity of the video though Tchoffo confirmed the video was from the scene of Sundays attack.
