Iraqi air forces destroy ISIS hideouts in Hamrin Mountains "ConflictWatch Feed Iraq"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi warplanes destroyed ISIS hideouts in the Hamrin Mountains in northeastern Iraq, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The Joint Operations Command mentioned in a statement on Tuesday that the Iraqi air force carried out an air strike against the terrorists hideouts in the Hamrin Mountains.

The air strike destroyed a pick-up vehicle used by ISIS terrorists, a tunnel excavator, and a network of tunnels used by terrorists for logistical support.

Iraq announced in late 2017 the liberation of all its territories from the grip of ISIS, but the authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group that carry out attacks from time to time in the country.

The Iraqi security forces waged battles in several Iraqi governorates, including Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala, Salah Al-Din, Anbar, and the outskirts of Baghdad, to eliminate the remaining members of the ISIS group following the elimination of the terrorist group, which occupied large areas in Iraq and Syria for years.

The Iraqi authorities have confirmed more than once that the security forces are trying to eliminate remnants of terrorist organizations in the country and tighten restrictions on firearms.

The Global Coalition against Daesh (ISIS) reported last April a decline in attacks in Iraq and Syria during the first quarter of 2023, when terrorists were still active despite their defeat.

ISIS attacks in Iraq declined by 68 percent from the beginning of 2023 until the first week of April compared to the same period last year, i24 News reported.

In a report issued in February, the United Nations estimated that ISIS still has 5,000 to 7,000 members and supporters across Iraq and neighboring Syria, roughly half of whom are fighters, i24 News added.

Iraqi president urges to end the displaced issue before the end of 2024 "ConflictWatch Feed Isis"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, urged on Tuesday to end the displaced issue within a timeframe that does not exceed December 2024.

During a meeting with the Head of UN-Habitat Iraq, Wael Al-Ashhab, and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad, the Iraqi President stressed the need to ensure a safe and stable return of the displaced to their cities and homes, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Rashid explained that the safe return of displaced Iraqis will be completed through strengthened cooperation between government agencies and international organizations concerned with the displaced.

Al-Ashhab reviewed the progress of the United Nations program and the future plans set to resolve this issue by returning all the displaced to their homes.

A report issued in July by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) mentioned that one million people remain displaced in Iraq six years after the defeat of the terrorist group ISIS, with a quarter of them perceived as ISIS-affiliates.

On a visit to Anbar, Baghdad and Basra in mid-July, the UNDPs Assistant Secretary-General and Crisis Bureau Director, Asako Okai, stated that supporting the countrys efforts to reintegrate everyone is critical to preventing extremism and boosting recovery.

More than six million people were forced to flee their homes between 2014 and 2017 as ISIS fighters controlled around 40 percent of the country, including Mosul, Iraqs second-largest city.

80 percent of displaced people have been able to return home, according to the UNDP.

Summary of the 32nd UN Monitoring Report on ISIL and Al-Qaida "ConflictWatch Feed Isis"

The UN has released its 32nd monitoring report on ISIL and Al-Qaida, the report includes some interesting details as to the operations of both groups inside Iraq and Syria. Below I summarise the reports findings for Iraq and Syria, starting with IS:

IS Core continues to sustain leadership losses, most recently with their head of the general directorate of provinces, Abu Sara al-Iraqi being killed in an aistrike in Syria on the 24th of February. Abu Sara is assessed to have been extremely influential inside, influencing strategy and personnel assignment. His death is assessed to have been disruptive, but only for a short term. Abu Saras successor has been identified as possibly Abu Zeinab.
Member states could not confirm Turkeys claim to have killed Abu al-Hussain al-Hussaini al-Quraishi, with one member state suggesting that they only killed the groups security leader in Syria.
As a result of attrition, IS has adopted a flat leadership structure, with the leader having a lesser role in day to day operations. The groups leadership losses are suggested to be behind the lack of a surge in attacks during Ramadan this year.
IS is thought to have between 5,000-7,000 members across both countries, most of which are fighters. The group reduced attacks as a matter of strategy and focuses on reorganising and recruiting.
Most senior IS leaders remain in north-west Syria, although some have relocated to Daraa which has an estimated presence of several hundred IS fighters. It is believed that the groups Sharia commander and several Arab leaders are in Daraa. Some leadership has also relocated to the central Badia and the Iraqi border, where the group seeks to abuse the relatively porous crossing.
Whilst Iraqi Counter-Terrorism efforts keep the pressure on IS, the group seeks to exploit security weaknesses in the Kurdistan region in order to enable attacks and resupply its cells.
The group in Iraq is overseen by Abu Abd al-Qader.
al-Qaders predecessor, Abu Khadija has taken on a role of increased importance, overseeing the Iraq-Syria border as well as the Bilad al-Rafidayn regional office.
One member state noted a connection between IS and organised crime groups in Mosul, Kirkuk, Tikrit and Ramadi
IS attacks were primarily restricted to rural areas, maintaining a presence in its strongholds of Kirkuk, Tarmiya, Salaheddin, and Diyala.
The majority of IS Iraq leaders are based in the Hamrin mountains, and Anbar province is used to reorganise and restructure

Iranian Major General provided the countrys politicians with evdience confirming a cooperation between the U.S. and ISIS "ConflictWatch Feed Isis"

A senior Iranian official says Major General Qassem Soleimani, who commands the Quds Force of Irans Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), had provided the Foreign Ministry with documents showing that the US is in league with the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian parliament speaker's special adviser on international affairs, who previously served at the Foreign Ministry, made the revelation in a program run on the Iranian broadcaster, the IRIB. "When I was at the Foreign Ministry, I had a meeting with General Soleimani. He gave me documents and told me to slap them in the face of the West and the UN," Amir-Abdollahian said. "The documents provided by General Soleimani contained precise information on the geographical position, time and exact details (of US collusion with Daesh), Amir-Abdollahian said. "When Mosul in Iraq was under the Daesh occupation, an American A330 landed at Mosul Airport, American generals got off the plane and military equipment was unloaded, he explained. QSD: Claims by Certain Turkish and Arab Media Outlets Racist and Untrue "ConflictWatch Feed Isis"

(DIHA/ANF) As the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) operation to liberate the North of Raqqa from DAISH enter its 6th day, Commander Ebu Feyad decried as false claims appearing in certain Turkish and Arab media outlets close to the Turkish government and the Syrian National Coalition that the QSD was advancing on Raqqa out of its own interests and that suffered 300 casualties on the first day. Ebu Feyad went on to add that the QSD does not approach people on an ethnic basis. These reports are entirely false, and part of a racist approach and attitude.

Rather, Ebu Feyad claims, the QSDs decision to undertake the operation derived from Raqqas important strategic position on one of the major road networks connecting the large cities in the West of Syria to Mosul and Baghdad. He underlined that it was launched with widespread support from the local population, many of whom live as refugees in QSD controlled zones.

So far, Ebu Feyad announces, the operations have been successful. QSD forces have pushed ISIS from the strategic villages of Qirtaca, Fatsa, Hedriyat Xell, Nemrdiy, H, Indibn, Mitemesric and taken a 5 km wide and 10 km deep swath of territory controlling two of the major routes into the north of the city. BREAKING: ISIS takes over Mosul

ISIS have taken over Mosul a large City in the northern Part of Iraq, and in the process have captured US military equipment. They have used the attack as a spring board to take over Kirkuk and its oil fields. The attack also has ramifications for Syria as the emboldened terror group ISIS is also attacking Hassakeh city with it's new found power. The attack could be a push towards Baghdad.

As ISIS captures more areas which contain military bases they have mechanised and begun rapidly advancing. Some of the equipment has already wound up in Syria.
