Miko Peled: Israel Was Never a Cohesive Democracy, and Its Disintegration Was Inevitable "IndyWatch Feed Africa"

Israel is a nation grappling with deep internal divisions, and unfortunately, it is the Palestinian people who are paying the heavy price. Recently, a group of Israeli reservists known as Brothers In Arms made headlines by refusing to fulfill their reserve duty in protest of the newly passed Judicial Reform. Their stated concern was for the preservation of Jewish democracy, with an emphasis on creating a better future for their children within such a system.

Some of the refusers who sat with their backs to the cameras, probably because they were members in some of Israels highly secretive death squads, known as the Special Forces, said they were concerned about the nature of the Israeli army. But what was it that they did not mention? Even once? The rights of Palestinians.

Fundraiser

The rights and welfare of the Palestinian people seemed to hold no significance for these individuals. Despite being hailed by some as heroic champions of democracy, they displayed a disheartening indifference toward the safety and well-being of Palestinian children. To them, millions of Palestinians are merely viewed as targets, devoid of any value beyond the crosshairs of a gun.

The media is portraying the protest in Israel as the growing pains of a young democracy. It is not. Israel was never a democracy but a racist, violent, divided entity that has barely kept it together. Furthermore, Israel was never a cohesive society, and this break was inevitable.

Now Israel is falling apart in front of our very eyes, Palestinians are undergoing unprecedented suffering, and there is no one presenting a clear agenda for Palestine. Once again, at historic intersections in Palestine, the people of Palestine have no say because they have no voice.

Not the First Time

Israeli society is a patchwork of immigrant groups who are mostly disconnected from each other and make up the socio-economic structure of Israeli society. Generally speaking, the more European you are, the more privilege you have. This is definitely not the first crisis that Israeli society has had to endure, but it is the first one where the President of the United States and other notable Americans seem concerned.

When the state of Israel was established, Zionist institutions did everything they could to get Jewish communities in Arab countries to leave their homeland and their homes and to come to what was now Israel. Even though, for the most part, these ancient Jewish communities were reluctant to move, many of them did. They came from Yemen, all over North Africa, from Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and they came from Kur...

Are Israel and Lebanon on the verge of another all-out war? "IndyWatch Feed World"

A border wall dispute threatens to reignite a simmering conflict, but it could have been avoided with Washington's help. After months of tensions along the Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel, tents set up by Lebanese Hezbollah - in response to an Israeli border war project on occupied territory - may escalate into the largest conflict between both sides since the 34-day war of 2006. Lebanon and Israel are technically in a constant state of war, frozen since August 2006. Despite both sides having largely held their fire since the mid-2000s, a series of provocations has threatened to change the status quo in dramatic fashion. In 2018, Lebanon's Higher Defence Council announced that it had given orders to prevent Israel from constructing a multi-million dollar border wall on Lebanese territory, to which Tel Aviv* responded that the fence/wall was intended to be built on Israeli territory.

Selective BBC reporting on Hizballahs northern border provocations "IndyWatch Feed War"

On July 6th the BBC News website published a report by David Gritten under the last first headline Israeli artillery strikes Lebanon after anti-tank missile launch.

The report opens with an accurate account of the story:

Israels military says it responded with artillery fire after an anti-tank missile was launched from Lebanon.

Some of the missiles parts fell in Lebanon and some parts fell adjacent to the fence in the town of Ghajar in Israeli territory, a statement said.

However, the article goes on to promote conflicting and confusing information from Lebanese sources and makes several references to the village of Ghajar together with a link to a BBC report from 2010.

Security sources in Lebanon told Reuters news agency that two rockets rather than an anti-tank misile [sic] were fired towards Israel.

The sources said one landed in Lebanese territory and the other near Ghajar, a contested town which straddles the frontier between Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

The Israeli military initially said that a rocket exploded adjacent to the Blue Line in Israeli territory, referring to t...

US allies on alert after lithium-rich Bolivia inks defense deal with Iran "IndyWatch Feed War"

The Cradle | July 25, 2023

Members of Bolivias far-right opposition and the Argentinian government are demanding that La Paz disclose the details of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defense and security affairs signed between Defense Ministers Edmundo Novillo y Mohamad Reza Ashtiani in Tehran last week.

They say that [Iran] will give us drones. Others say they will give us missiles. All of this sounds strange, even more so considering it involves Iran I cant understand why Bolivia is getting involved in such a complex and difficult relationship, said lawmaker Gustavo Aliaga, who belongs to the Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) party.

In 2019, CC leader Carlos Mesa supported the US-orchestrated coup that forced socialist leader Evo Morales to flee Bolivia, leaving it under the control of a far-right dictatorship that conducted multiple massacres of Morales supporters and sought to surrender the countrys massive lithium deposits to western transnationals.

The Argentinian foreign ministry also demanded explanations from La Paz on Monday under pressure from the Delegation of Argentinian Israeli Associations (DAIA), who said the MoU risks for the security of Argentina and the region due to Tehrans ties with Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah.

In a press release, DAIA called on the Argentinian government to condemn this agreement and demand Bolivia reconsider its decision.

Buenos Aires blames Hezbollah and Iran for the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center that left 85 dead. Both Tehran and Hezbollah deny the accusation.

The statements by the CC and DAIA came on the heels of a report by the neoconservative Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which claims that the deal between Tehran and La Paz includes the delivery of Iranian drones for the South American nation.

Last week, Iran agreed to help Bolivia combat drug trafficking along its borders and boost cooperation with the Bolivian army.

[Due to] Bolivias critical needs in terms of border defense and the fight against drug trafficking, we will establish collaboration in equipment and specialized knowledge, Ashtiani said following his meeting with the Bolivian defense minister last week.

For his part, Novillo said Iran is a role model for nations that seek freedom,...
